Hungarian Poultry
Farming and Raw Material Production

Integration
Image Primary breeders and distributors trading imported parent stocks, in addition to signing simple sales contracts with parent stock rearing farms, form close relationships with them and assist their partners with extension services, as well as animal health care, feeding and other services. A crucial element in this system of relationships is the continuous collection and analysis of farm output data and the improvement of this output on the basis of feedback.
Breeding and parent stock farms are complemented by their own, or in the case of the latter, often by separate hatcheries, which in both cases have to comply with a strict biological and hygiene regime. The technological standard of hatcheries is modern; most of them are fitted with Petersime machines. Poultry production was, of all sectors, the least affected by the difficulties encountered in the course of the transformation of the Hungarian economy, a fact attributable to integration which has bound individual phases of production increasingly closely together, while the forms of production have been transformed llere just as elsewhere. Integration has also been the key to ensuring reliable food manufacturing within poultry production and securing the position of farmers. Poultry farming is integrated by slaughter and processor plants, which have direct links with the poultry meat market: characteristically day-old chicks and feed are financed by the industry. Since the transition to a market economy, farms are predominantly in private ownership: some are operated by private farmers, others by partnerships. The majority of feed manufacturers have a contractual relationship with the integration, although some of the larger firms, including processing companies, have their own feed mills. A further selling point of Hungarian poultry meat production is its variety, as demonstrated by what we have said about breeding; almost all poultry breeds have a significant product output.
Hungarian Feed
Image Hungarian grain production is an important factor for the Hungarian poultry industry, as the country's corn in the ear and corn production provides a favourable base for poultry farming in terms of quantity, quality and price. It is sufficient to supplement this feed base by purchasing protein feed ingredient. The technological environment of poultry meat production varies depending on the poultry breed. Broiler chicken, turkey and Barbary duck require intensive, air-conditioned indoor husbandry in sheds with modern watering and feeding facilities. Geese and Peking-type ducks are kept in a natural environment. Table geese and liver geese are similarly raised on large pasture areas before fattening. Ducks are traditionally raised near water. Guinea-fowl are raised in the natural environment of small farms.
