image CO.P.R.A, Romagnese Poultry Breeders' co-operative with limited liability, was established in 1986 after an agreement among important breeders and table egg producers who gathered their experience and products to reach more significant volumes and to face an increasingly competitive market with more success possibilities.
The activity started in the month of August 1990, in a rented grading structure, whilst a new grading and packaging centre conceived according to hygienic and efficiency-oriented criteria was going to be built.

In the month of July 1992, the new packaging centre of Calisese was ready with its production capacity of over 10 millions eggs per weekly working shifts.

The egg production

image Eggs are produced in 48 farms belonging to 23 supplying partners and producing over 300 millions eggs per year with an average of 1,500,000 chickens.

The production structures of various dimensions are all of high technological level with some top-level farms.

Steadily searching for quality and innovation is the goal of the partners as they understood that conquering stable positions on the market meant and still means good farming techniques and intrinsically quality products.

Special attention is paid to the choice of the races going to be bred and their diet through standard formulation and reference parameters supplied by the Co-operative.

The standard formulation of the used feed based on cereals, protein soy-bean, dehydrated alfalfa flour, allows for a standardised and constant production. Special care is devoted to the egg yolk coloration through compulsory regulations for all partners that, for special products, grant absorbance values higher than 0.55/0.60 at the spectrophotometric analysis.
All required controls are conducted in the internal CO.P.R.A. laboratory.

The collection from the partners and the grading

image The collection from the partners' farms is usually made daily since the large dimensions of the farms and their vicinity to the packaging centre makes this operation possible.
Eggs are transported on specifically designed trucks.

For grading and packaging the eggs, CO.P.R.A. has installed a Moba 8000 grading machine with a production capacity of 90,000 eggs per hour and the possibility to pack the product in different ways. Every package is marked with a Ean 13 barcode printed by a special printer coupled to the grading machine.

The packaging centre of Calisese employs 65 people.

The recently built premises of Calisese strictly complies with all EC-regulations and includes a conditioning system of the whole processing area granting ideal temperature and humidity conditions.

All these characteristics enables the Co-operative to grant an absolutely fresh product preserved under the best conditions.
